Basic Counseling Services Grades 9 – 10:

The 9th and 10th grade years are about building strong foundations, not rushing the college process. The Basic Counselling Services are designed to help students develop confidence, good academic habits, and a clearer sense of their strengths while allowing families to take a thoughtful, low-pressure approach to planning ahead.

Through ongoing guidance, The Wandering Academic helps students understand how they learn, make intentional academic and extracurricular choices, and develop the organisational and time-management skills that become increasingly important in later years. We also offer guidance on summer opportunities and enrichment programs that support genuine growth rather than résumé building.

For parents, this early support provides reassurance that their child is being guided with care and perspective during the formative years of high school — so when the college process does begin in earnest, students are prepared, grounded, and ready.

Comprehensive College Counselling Package

11 th Grade is often when the college process begins to feel very real — and, for many families, unexpectedly stressful. The Comprehensive College Counselling Package is designed to provide steady, experienced guidance during this pivotal year, helping students move forward with confidence while giving parents the reassurance that nothing important is being overlooked.

This highly personalised program supports students through every stage of the college search and application process. We work closely with each student to identify colleges and universities that are a strong academic and personal fit, and we develop a thoughtful, well-balanced application strategy that reflects both the student’s goals and the realities of today’s admissions landscape.

A central part of our work is helping students tell their story well. Through careful guidance and ongoing feedback, we support students as they develop their Personal Statement, supplemental essays, activities résumé, and interview skills — always with an emphasis on authenticity and clarity rather than pressure or polish for its own sake. Throughout 11 th and 12 th grade, The Wandering Academic also provides ongoing academic and organisational support. We help students manage deadlines, testing decisions, and recommendations, while keeping the overall process structured and manageable. As applications are completed, we conduct a careful review of each submission before it is sent, ensuring that every application reflects the student’s best work.
Importantly, our work does not end when applications are submitted or decisions are released. Students enrolled in the Comprehensive College Counselling Package continue to receive support through their first semester of college. We help families and students make sense of financial aid offers, housing forms, course registration, and the many practical details involved in actually getting to campus and settling in successfully. For The Wandering Academic, it’s not just about helping students gain admission to a college — it’s about helping them thrive once they arrive.

For families, this extended support offers something just as valuable as expertise: peace of mind. Parents can trust that their child is being guided with care, perspective, and deep experience, from the first college conversation through the critical transition into college life itself.

Getting into college is a big achievement — but it’s not the finish line. Students in the Comprehensive College Counseling Package continue to receive guidance through their first semester of college. We help you make sense of financial aid offers, housing choices, course registration, and the many practical details of starting college, so you can arrive on campus prepared, confident, and ready to succeed.

Support Through the 1st Semester of College

“I thought getting into college would be the hardest part, but I was surprised by how much there was to figure out afterward. Having support during my first semester helped me understand everything and feel more settled. I started college feeling prepared instead of overwhelmed.”
